She Whispers Within (18"x18"x34")

She Whispers Within II was carved from Colorado Yule marble, a very hard, crystalline marble with "gold veins" that run through it. I carved it to symbolize a feminine form reopening to life and the world after experiencing an emotional wounding, or grief, or tragedy. Like the prehistoric Venus figurines, it has a seed-like form which represents birth, rebirth, and emergence. Quarried in Marble Colorado at 12,500 ft. in huge, domed chambers within a mountain peak, Colorado Yule marble was used to carve 44" high drums, or sections, that were stacked to create the columns of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. Entering the enormous, domed chambers of the quarry, which are supported by 50'x50' rough marble columns, is like entering a futuristic scene from a movie.
