Chasm was designed to emphasize the space between two large standing stones, a symbolic space where energies of the heavens and Earth mingle, thereby creating a sacred space. When I was five years old and my parents separated, both disappeared from my world for a period of time. Perhaps it was only a month but it seemed a very long time. To cope with this reality, I began playing a game with my older brother. We pretended to be tiny so that adults could not see us. In our fantasy, our home became a doll house and we imagined the surrounding woodlands as princess pine, or running ground pine. We played the game for months, even after our mother returned. When I created this landscape sculpture, I imagined being tiny and walking through the wedge stones into the center, as in a Star Wars scene, then being bathed with light and energy from the Earth and heavens, and being reborn into a spiritual awakening.
